Case was founded in 1842 by Jerome Increase Case as the J. I. Case Threshing Machine Company, a name it kept until 1928, when the business was reincorporated as the J. I. Case Company. It was one of America's largest builders of steam engines and threshing machines.
Tenneco became majority owner in 1967 and in 1984 bought International Harvester's agricultural equipment division, combining the farm equipment brands as Case IH. In 1999 Case merged with New Holland Agriculture to form CNH Global.
