History of the Case 990

David Brown joins Case

Tenneco bought David Brown Tractors of Yorkshire in 1972 and the company became part of J. I. Case; the purchase was completed in 1973 and gave Case a British factory and a European dealer network.

The 90 Series

The David Brown 90 Series was launched in 1979 and built in both Yorkshire and Racine. The Case 990 comes from this family of tractors. The sources do not describe the 990’s engine, transmission or production years, and the page does not guess them.

After David Brown

The David Brown name was dropped with the 94 Series in 1983, when the tractors became Case models outright. The Yorkshire factory at Meltham closed in 1988, by which time Case IH had been formed out of Case and International Harvester.

Design and features

  • British roots: from the tractors Case inherited with David Brown of Yorkshire.
  • 90 Series period: the range launched in 1979 and built in Yorkshire and at Racine.
  • Two badges: sold in the years when David Brown and Case names overlapped.
  • Working survivor: the example in the film is still used for farm work.
