History of the Case IH 956
International Harvester in Germany
IH built tractors in Germany from 1971, when the 946 and 1046 were launched there. The German factory at Neuss made the tractors that carried the International and later Case IH names in Europe, and it kept working until 1997.

The XL cab
In 1981 IH launched the 1455XL and the first of the 85 Series, with the XL cab offered as an option. The XL badge, which the 956 carries, comes from that cab generation.
After the merger
When Tenneco merged International Harvester’s farm business into Case in 1985, the tractors became Case IH models and the International name was dropped. The sources used here do not describe the 956 XL itself, so no power or weight figures are given.
