History of the Case IH Puma

2006

The Puma range was launched in 2006, the same year that most Case IH tractor production at Basildon in England moved to the Steyr factory at St Valentin in Austria. Since then the European Case IH tractors have largely come from that Austrian plant, while the biggest machines are built in the United States.

Where the Puma sits

Case IH names its most famous equipment as the Axial-Flow combines, the Magnum, the Steiger and the Farmall tractors. The Puma fills the gap between the Maxxum and the Magnum, which makes it the upper middle of the range: bigger than a general farm tractor, smaller than the big Magnum.

What is not here

The sources used for this page do not set out the Puma’s engines, transmissions or outputs, so the page does not state them. Photos of the range from Wikimedia Commons are used instead, with captions that say what the machines actually are.

Design and features

  • Launched in 2006: the same year as the St Valentin production move.
  • Upper middle: between the Maxxum and the Magnum.
  • European build: from the Austrian factory that makes most Case IH tractors for Europe.
  • Modern range: part of the current Case IH line-up with the Maxxum, Magnum and Farmall.

Case IH Puma versions

  • Puma (2006): the original range.
  • Puma CVX: the version with a continuously variable transmission.
  • Case IH Maxxum: the range below, on its own page.
  • Case IH Magnum: the range above.

The Maxxum is on the Case IH Maxxum page and the Magnum on the Case IH Magnum page. Utility tractors are covered with the Case IH JX. More are in the Case section.
