Sales plunged after the 1973 oil crisis and the firm went bankrupt in 1978; Chrysler took control in 1987, and in 1998 the company was sold to the Volkswagen Group, which placed it under Audi. The tractor business, Lamborghini Trattori, has been separate since 1973.
