The Lamborghini Pregunta was a one-off concept car presented at the 1999 Paris motor show. Built by the French coachbuilder and supplier Heuliez on Lamborghini Diablo mechanicals, it was a two-seat roadster with fighter-aircraft styling, a removable glass hardtop and an interior designed differently for each occupant.

History of the Lamborghini Pregunta
Why a coachbuilder built it
Heuliez was a French bodybuilder and systems supplier that made parts for other manufacturers. The Pregunta was created to demonstrate something different: that Heuliez could develop a complete vehicle, not just components. To keep the project credible the company started from a Lamborghini Diablo and kept its chassis, engine and drivetrain, so that whatever the body looked like, the car underneath was a known quantity. The name follows Lamborghini’s tradition of Spanish names and means ‘question’.
Aircraft looks
The body was entirely new and the styling drew heavily on aviation, which was appropriate given that Lamborghini itself has supplied V12 engines for offshore powerboat racing. The most distinctive features were a removable hardtop made of glass and butterfly doors that opened forwards. Numerous air intakes and a slightly swollen rear end reinforced the aircraft impression. The cabin was split in two in character: the driver’s side was trimmed for sport, the passenger side for comfort.
The only car
No series production was ever planned and the Pregunta remained a single example. Fitted with the 5,707 cc V12 in a higher state of tune than the standard Diablo, it produced 395 kW (530 PS) and was credited with 330 km/h and 0–100 km/h in four seconds. In April 2013 the car was offered for sale by a Paris dealer for €1,352,240, and it was advertised again at the end of 2025.
Design and features
- Diablo underneath: the chassis, 5.7-litre V12 and drivetrain came straight from the Lamborghini flagship.
- Glass hardtop: a removable roof panel that turned the roadster into a closed car.
- Butterfly doors: hinged to open forwards, unlike the Lamborghini scissor doors.
- Split cabin: a sporty driver’s side and a comfortable passenger side.
Lamborghini Pregunta versions
- Pregunta (1999): the only car built, also known as the Heuliez Pregunta.
The Pregunta was built on the Diablo, and its aviation-inspired styling has something in common with the later Reventón. More cars are in the Lamborghini collection.
