TVR takes its name from Trevor Wilkinson, whose first garage carried the letters T, V and R. He bought an old wheelwright's workshop in Blackpool in 1946 to start an engineering business called Trevcar Motors, later renamed TVR Engineering.
The company built its first original chassis in 1949, followed by a series of lightweight sports cars. Ownership passed from Wilkinson to Martin Lilley, Peter Wheeler, Nikolay Smolensky and a syndicate led by Les Edgar before the brand was bought by Charge Holdings in 2025.
