Talbot was introduced in 1902 by the British-French company Clément-Talbot, whose founders were the Earl of Shrewsbury and Adolphe Clément-Bayard. After the First World War the business became part of the Anglo-French combine STD Motors.
With the collapse of STD Motors in the mid-1930s the London factory went to Rootes and the Paris one to Antonio Lago. PSA Peugeot Citroën acquired the dormant marque in 1978 and used it on cars from 1979 until 1994.
