History of the Peugeot Expert
First generation
Citroën released the first-generation Jumpy in June 1994, calling it the Dispatch in English-speaking markets; Peugeot followed with its rebadged version in July 1995 and Fiat with the Scudo in February 1996. The vans differ little technically or visually, a clear case of badge engineering, and they share their mechanicals and body structure with the Sevel Nord minivans: the Citroën Evasion, Fiat Ulysse, Lancia Zeta and Peugeot 806. The engines differed between brands, with Fiat using its own units rather than those fitted to the Citroën and Peugeot versions. All three were facelifted in March 2004, when the most visible change was a new front with headlamps combined with the indicators for the first time.
Second generation
The second generation was launched in November 2006 with deliveries from January 2007 in the main markets. It offered more cargo space and more body styles, and the Peugeot version arrived in January 2007 with a people carrier model, the Expert Tepee. The Citroën twin was sold with 90, 120 and 136 bhp versions and a choice of four diesel engines or one petrol. A small facelift in February 2012 changed the grille and front bumper, and from July 2013 Toyota sold a rebadged version called the Proace. The Fiat Scudo was discontinued in the summer of 2012, and the PSA and Fiat joint venture ended in March 2016.
Third generation
At the Geneva Motor Show in 2016 Citroën, Peugeot and Toyota revealed the next generation, with the passenger versions renamed: the Citroën SpaceTourer, the Peugeot Traveller and the Toyota Proace Verso. Commercial versions followed in March 2016 under the Jumpy, Expert and Proace names. Since 2017 the Expert and Jumpy have been assembled from CKD kits in Montevideo, Uruguay, where Nordex had built 13,000 units by October 2019, most of them exported to Brazil and Argentina. In April 2018 PSA began building the Expert and Jumpy at its Kaluga plant in Russia, and in September 2018 it announced that the Luton plant would build the third generation from the end of 2019. In January 2022 Stellantis stopped selling combustion-engined passenger versions of these vans in Europe, leaving only electric and hydrogen versions, while the panel vans were not affected.
