History of the Volvo V60

The first-generation V60 arrived in autumn 2010 as the estate counterpart of the S60, and both generations have offered a Cross Country version with ground clearance raised by about 60 mm. A facelift followed in 2014, and the second generation came in 2018 on the Scalable Product Architecture platform.

Special versions

In February 2014 Volvo unveiled the V60 Ocean Race Edition, with unique alloy wheels, a cargo cover printed with the route of the 2014–2015 Volvo Ocean Race and a choice of four colours including the signature Ocean Race Blue. In 2013 came the V60 Polestar, developed by Polestar and sold from 2014 in limited markets: a retuned engine of 350 PS, Öhlins dampers, Brembo six-piston brakes, new anti-roll bars, 20-inch wheels and a contrasting interior. For 2017 the Polestar switched from a 3.0-litre six to a 2.0-litre turbo four.

Plug-in hybrid

A pre-production diesel-electric V60 plug-in hybrid was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011, the result of close cooperation between Volvo and the Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall. The first 1,000 cars, a Pure Limited edition in electric silver, sold out in September 2012 before deliveries began, and production was raised to 5,000 for the 2014 model year. A five-cylinder 2.4-litre D5 turbo diesel of 215 hp and 440 Nm drove the front wheels, while an electric rear axle drive motor of 70 hp and 200 Nm drew on a 12 kWh battery. Volvo quoted up to 50 km of electric range, 1.8 l/100 km and 49 g/km of CO2, a total range of up to 1,200 km and 0–100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, with Pure, Hybrid and Power modes selected by buttons on the instrument panel. An R-Design version was added in April 2014.
