History of the Suzuki JR50
A first motorcycle
The JR50 was built as a first motorcycle for children between five and twelve. Its 49 cc two-stroke engine uses oil injection, with a window in the tank to show when a refill is needed, and drives through a single-speed automatic transmission with a centrifugal clutch, so a young rider only has to think about the throttle and brakes. The suspension height can be adjusted as the rider grows.

Racing and relatives
The little Suzuki has been used both for racing and for simple recreational riding. Its engine proved useful elsewhere too: the same unit later powered the ALT50 and LT50 all-terrain vehicles.
Design and features
- Automatic and simple: centrifugal clutch and a single speed.
- Oil injection: no premix needed, with a visible oil level.
- Adjustable suspension: the bike grows with its rider.
- Shared engine: also used in the ALT50 and LT50.
Suzuki JR50 versions
- JR50: the standard children’s mini bike.
- ALT50: a three-wheeler using the same engine.
- LT50: a small quad using the same engine.
The JR50 sits below the bigger RM motocross bikes and shares its engine family with the AX100. More Suzukis are in the Suzuki collection.
