Scania G-series: the middle cab of the 2004 truck range

The Scania G-series was introduced on 5 September 2007 as part of Scania’s modular truck range. Its cab sat between the low P-series cab and the high R-series cab, and it was derived from the R-series, giving operators a middle choice for mixed distribution and long-distance work.

History of the Scania G-series

Where the G fits

The G-series joined Scania’s truck range in September 2007, three years after the range had been launched with the R-series on 31 March 2004 and the P- and T-series on 20 August 2004. Scania describes the G as a medium forward control cab derived from the R-series, with a cab height between the P and the R. It should not be confused with the old G cab of the 2- and 3-series, which was even lower than the P cab, nor with the G chassis of the 4-series, such as the 94G.

Modular range

The whole range is modular, which gives a wide choice of configurations for different types of work. Trucks in the range were available with engines from a 9-litre inline five to a 16-litre V8, although the V8 was offered only in the higher models. The range was launched in Latin America on 9 October 2007 with all three of the P-, G- and R-series from the start.

Updates

On 17 September 2009 Scania launched an upgraded R-series with sharper exterior styling and larger grille openings, new interior details including a factory-installed coffeemaker, a new version of the Opticruise gear system with automatic clutch and a driver support system. The G-series received the upgrade shortly afterwards. In March 2013 the Streamline versions of the R- and G-series followed, with engines meeting Euro 6 and aerodynamic improvements for lower fuel consumption. In 2014 the front air filters of the G- and R-series were given a redesign.

Design and features

  • Middle cab height: between the low P cab and the high R cab.
  • R-series derivation: the cab and much of the technology came from the R.
  • Modular configuration: engines from a 9-litre five to a 16-litre V8, the V8 only in higher models.
  • Streamline version: Euro 6 engines and aerodynamic changes from March 2013.

Scania G-series versions

  • G-series (2007): the original medium-cab model.
  • 2009 upgrade: new styling, interior and Opticruise features.
  • G-series Streamline (2013): Euro 6 engines and aerodynamic improvements.
  • Latin American range: built and sold from October 2007 alongside P and R.

The smaller cab is described in Scania P-series and the larger one in Scania R-series. The bonneted member of the same family is the Scania T-series, and more vehicles are in the Scania collection.
