History of the Piaggio Xevo
The Xevo is a direct development of the Piaggio X8, and all its models use a single-cylinder four-stroke multi-valve engine meeting the Euro 3 standards, with a continuously variable transmission. The 125 has a carburettor 124 cc Lead engine of 11 kW or 15 hp; the 250 has a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 244 cc Quasar engine delivering 16.5 kW or 22.1 hp; and the 400 uses a liquid-cooled Master engine of 399 cc with electronic fuel injection and 24 kW or 32 hp.

The boot
A distinctive Xevo element is its boot: a large underseat storage space of 56 litres, enough for two full-face helmets or objects up to 80 cm long, with a remote-style key that separately opens the front and rear storage compartments. The compartment also has a foldaway seat cover and a courtesy light. The area behind the front shield, besides the odometer, trip computer and tachometer, provides further space for small items and is equipped with a 12 V plug for a GPS or a mobile phone.
Chassis and brakes
All Xevo models have a steel tube frame, with a 35 mm fork at the front and two double-acting hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear, adjustable for spring preload in four positions. Braking is by a 240 mm rear disc on all models; at the front the 125 and 250 have a single 260 mm disc, while the 400 has two 240 mm discs. All models have a 14-inch front wheel, with a 12-inch rear on the 125 and 250 and a 14-inch rear on the 400.
Everyday details
The direction indicators double as hazard warning indicators, and the rear grab handles have a high-grip central insert for the passenger, extending rearwards as a backrest. The Xevo took over from the X8 as Piaggio’s large-wheeled, practical scooter, in a range that also included the smaller X7.
