History of the Piaggio X7

The X7 was produced between 2007 and 2012 with water-cooled engines of 125, 250, 300 and 400 cm3. It has large wheels, a comfortable chassis, a comfortable bench and plenty of storage space: a full-face helmet and a jet helmet fit in the helmet compartment. The engines used were the L.E.A.D.E.R. and QUASAR types, both in carburettor form and as injectors with the suffix i.e., and both met the Euro 3 standard.

The X7 Evo

Because of the low sales found by the X7 a little more than a year and a half after it went on sale, Piaggio presented the X7 Evo on 23 June 2009 as an improved and restyled version. The front light unit changed and conformed to the style of the rest of the X range, while the chassis and mechanical characteristics remained the same except for the top-of-the-range engine: the 250 was replaced by the new 300 Quasar with four valves and electronic injection, delivering 16.4 kW or 22.4 hp and a maximum torque of 23.8 Nm. The base engine remained the old 125.

The Chinese X7

In March 2021 Piaggio presented in China a new version of the X7 produced locally by the Zongshen Piaggio joint venture. It is a re-engineered version of the old European X7 according to Chinese specifications and intended solely for the internal market. Aesthetically it is a restyling of the X7 Evo with a full LED front headlight, while the components differ starting from the 244 cm3 engine of 15.6 kW at 6,500 rpm, the same as the Aprilia SR Max 250. The wheelbase is 1,480 mm, and the wheels keep diameters of 14 inches at the front and 13 at the rear with Zhengxin tyres, a fork with 35 mm stanchions and KYB shock absorbers. It has ABS, traction control and combined braking as standard, with a 260 mm front disc and a four-piston caliper, and it weighs 182 kg.

Design and features

  • Large wheels: stability and comfort for a scooter used every day.
  • Two engine families: L.E.A.D.E.R. for the 125 and QUASAR for the 250, 300 and 400.
  • Plenty of space: a full-face helmet and a jet helmet fit under the saddle.
  • X7 Evo: a restyled front and the 300 Quasar engine from 2009.

Piaggio X7 versions

  • X7 125: the base model with the L.E.A.D.E.R. engine.
  • X7 250: the QUASAR engine, replaced in 2009.
  • X7 300 and 400: the larger engines of the range.
  • X7 Evo (2009): new front light and the 300 Quasar with four valves.
  • Chinese X7 (2021): a 244 cm3 version for China only.

The X7 was the smaller alternative to the X8 and it preceded the Xevo in the large-wheeled range. More models are in the Piaggio collection.
