History of the Peugeot Scoot’Elec
An electric Zénith

The Scoot’Elec was launched in 1996 and shared its body panels and suspension parts with the Peugeot Zénith. It was powered by a 2.8 kW DC motor fed from three Saft nickel-cadmium monoblocs giving 18 V and 100 Ah.
Layout
The frame was built around a double cradle that held the batteries low down between and behind the rider’s feet, which gave a very low centre of gravity. The electronic controller and the onboard charger were housed under the seat.
Range
The scooter weighed 115 kg and had a nominal range of 40 km at 45 km/h, which could be extended by using an economy mode limiting the speed to 30 km/h. It was discontinued in 2006, and a replacement, the E-Vivacity, was planned for release in 2011.
Design and features
- Low centre of gravity: batteries carried low in a double-cradle frame.
- Nickel-cadmium batteries: three Saft monoblocs of 18 V and 100 Ah.
- Onboard charger: housed under the seat with the controller.
- Economy mode: 30 km/h speed limit to extend the range.
- Zénith bodywork: the electric version looked like the petrol scooter.
Peugeot Scoot’Elec versions
- Scoot’Elec (1996): the only version, sold until 2006.
The Scoot’Elec was based on the Zénith and came long before the electric scooter revival, which included the later e-Ludix. More in the Peugeot collection.
