History of the Peugeot Ludix

A budget design with interchangeable panels

The Ludix came in air-cooled and water-cooled forms. The One was a single seat vehicle, while other versions could carry a pillion passenger. It was also a very basic model, with drum brakes front and rear instead of the hydraulic front disc of the more expensive versions, kick start only, and a generator instead of the 12 V battery used on other models and on many other Peugeot scooters. That last difference made the indicators very dim, the horn poor and quiet, and left no lights on the small dash apart from a two-stroke warning light.

The models were designed for the budget end of the market and used a modular panel system that allowed cheap customisation through easily interchangeable panels. Ludix 50 cc scooters are often used for stunting.

The e-Ludix

Presented at EICMA in 2018, the e-Ludix is the fully electric version, which went into production in 2019. Unlike the earlier thermal model, produced in France, the new series was made in India by Mahindra & Mahindra at its factory in Madhya Pradesh, the owner of Peugeot Motocycles at the time, to reduce costs. The e-Ludix is approved in Europe with L1e homologation, equivalent to a fifty, weighs 85 kg including a 9 kg battery, and uses a Bosch 2.5 kW central electric motor with a Bosch 48 V lithium-ion battery of 1.6 kWh, giving about 50 km of range. Charging to 80% takes three hours from a normal wall socket and a full charge four hours. It has a 4.4-inch LCD screen and four modes: Boost for full power, Go for range, Cruise for the best balance and Crawl, which includes reverse for parking. At the end of 2024 the e-Ludix was discontinued and was replaced in April 2025 by the Peugeot Kisbee SE Electrique.
