History of the Peugeot Speedfight

First generation

The original Speedfight was a 50 cc scooter with an air-cooled or liquid-cooled two-stroke engine with a vertical cylinder, or a 100 cc air-cooled two-stroke. The 50 cc engines shared the same bottom end, while the 100 cc unit had a tougher connecting rod and crankshaft, among other changes. The scooter was rebadged in Malaysia as the Naza Flash, with some different body panels and a larger displacement.

Speedfight 2

The Speedfight 2 was introduced in 2001 after the success of the original. The front panel, rear panel and lights were different from the first model, and it was again offered with air or liquid cooling. It was also equipped with anti-dive front suspension. The 2000–2004 cars used a Gurtner carburettor instead of the Dell’Orto unit of the earlier model.

Speedfight 3 and 4

Peugeot released the Speedfight 3 in 2009 and the Speedfight 4 in 2014, the last of these with mainly cosmetic changes and again available with air or liquid cooling. Both used a horizontal-cylinder 50 cc two-stroke engine with an electronic oil injection pump made by Dell’Orto, an engine also shared with other Peugeot scooters such as the Ludix, Jet Force, New Vivacity and Streetzone. They were also sold with a 50 cc four-stroke, a derivative of the GY6 scooter engine whose parts are compatible with the SYM-built units of the same type.

Design and features

  • Four generations: from the original to the 2014 Speedfight 4.
  • Air or liquid cooling: the liquid version costs more.
  • Anti-dive fork: fitted to the Speedfight 2.
  • Shared engine: the horizontal 50 cc two-stroke used across the Peugeot range.
  • Naza Flash: a Malaysian rebadged version with larger capacity.

Peugeot Speedfight versions

  • Speedfight 50: the moped version for restricted licences.
  • Speedfight 100: the larger air-cooled two-stroke.
  • Speedfight 2 (2001): new bodywork and anti-dive suspension.
  • Speedfight 3 (2009) and 4 (2014): horizontal-cylinder engines.

The Speedfight shares its later 50 cc engine with the Peugeot Ludix and sits above the Tweet in the scooter range. More in the Peugeot collection.
