History of the Peugeot Rapido
A replacement for the ST and SC
The Rapido followed the Peugeot ST, built from 1985 to 1992, and the Peugeot SC, built from 1983 to 1992. Both had been strong sellers, but by the early 1990s Peugeot was renewing its scooter range for a market that was turning towards more fashionable machines from Yamaha and MBK.
Honda power
Peugeot did not have a suitable engine of its own for the next generation of small scooters and turned to Honda, which already built many engines for Peugeot mopeds made in Belgium. The Rapido used the engine of a first-generation Honda Vision, a two-stroke unit in a Peugeot frame and bodywork.
What made it popular
The Rapido was popular in the 1990s for its handling and for its bright colour options. The whole machine weighed around 60 kg, making it easy to handle in town, and it stayed in production from 1990 to 1995, when the new Peugeot range of the SV, Zénith and Buxy took over.
