The Peugeot Buxy and Peugeot Zénith are two scooters that Peugeot Motocycles produced from 1993 to 2002. Together with the Peugeot SV they replaced the old but rugged Peugeot ST and SC range that had come from the Rapido.

History of the Peugeot Buxy
A new kind of small two-wheeler
The Buxy and Zénith were aimed at a younger and more fashion-conscious market than the mopeds they replaced. With the SV, they took over from the old but sturdy ST and SC range, and their success came quickly and sped up the decline of the traditional mopeds, notably the Peugeot 103 and the MBK 51, which were by then old designs.
Equipment and positioning
The scooters were better equipped than their predecessors, with a front locker and front disc brakes on everything except the entry-level Zénith. The Zénith, on 10-inch wheels, was intended for city use, while the Buxy, with wide tyres, competed directly with the MBK Booster and the Yamaha BW’S. The Speedake, which came a little later, was the sporty model of the range with 12-inch wheels and red and white colours.
What it meant
Peugeot had already been propelled by its earlier models, and with this new range it became the leader of the French scooter market.
Design and features
- Front locker: storage that the mopeds did not have.
- Front disc brakes: standard except on the basic Zénith.
- Two characters: the Zénith for cities, the Buxy with wide tyres for sport.
- Replacement for mopeds: the range that ended the ST and SC line.
- Market leadership: the range that made Peugeot the French scooter leader.
Peugeot Buxy versions
- Zénith: 10-inch wheels, city use, entry-level version without a front disc.
- Buxy: wide tyres, aimed at the MBK Booster and Yamaha BW’S.
- Speedake: the later sporty model with 12-inch wheels.
The Buxy replaced the Peugeot ST range alongside the SV, and helped end the long career of the 103. More in the Peugeot collection.
