The Fiat Fiorino has been built since 1977, and its first two generations were panel van versions of other small Fiat models, the 127 and the Uno. The third generation, known as the Sevel LAV, was developed jointly with PSA Peugeot Citroën, with both companies later merging into Stellantis, and it is based on the Fiat Small platform.

That generation is also built with a passenger body as the Fiat Qubo and is sold with rebadged versions: the Citroën Nemo and the Peugeot Bipper. In each manufacturer’s range the small van sits below the Fiat Doblò, the Citroën Berlingo and the Peugeot Partner.

In the Peugeot range

For Peugeot the Bipper filled the space under the Partner, giving the company a vehicle for city deliveries where a full-size van would be too large. The passenger version, the Bipper Tepee, was sold with windows and rear seats for private buyers, in the same way that the Qubo was the passenger form of the Fiorino.

Later history

The car was produced in the Sevel joint venture, which also builds the Ducato and the larger PSA vans, and it stayed in the range until the end of the 2010s, when Peugeot’s small commercial offering was reduced to the Partner. The name comes from the same project that gave Fiat its Fiorino, named after the fiorino d’oro, an old Italian coin.
