The EX1 was developed for Peugeot’s 200th anniversary and shown at the Paris Motor Show in 2010. It is a two-door roadster with two electric motors producing 250 kW and 480 Nm. The monocoque is made from a carbon and honeycomb composite to save weight and add rigidity, and the rear track is narrower than the front. The car is 0.90 m high and 1.77 m wide, giving it a very low, wide stance.

Records

The EX1 broke six speed records for electric vehicles weighing less than 1,000 kg. From a standing start it recorded 8.89 seconds for an eighth of a mile, 14.4 seconds for a quarter mile, 16.81 seconds for 500 m, 23.85 for half a mile, 28.16 for 1,000 m and 41.09 for a mile. It reached 97 km/h in 2.24 seconds and a top speed of 259 km/h.

At the Taipingsi military airport at Chengdu in China the car improved several of those figures, recording 7.08 seconds for an eighth of a mile, 12.67 seconds for a quarter mile and 0–100 km/h in 2.24 seconds.

Where it fits

The EX1 belongs with Peugeot’s radical design studies of the period, following the Asphalte of 1996 and the 20Cup of 2005, and was shown alongside the SR1.

Design and features

  • Two motors: 250 kW and 480 Nm in a car of under 1,000 kg.

  • Six records: acceleration and distance records for electric cars.
  • 259 km/h: the top speed recorded by the concept.
