History of the Peugeot 5008
The first generation (T87)

The first 5008 was unveiled in July 2009 and went on sale in November that year. Its introduction coincided with the promotion of Peugeot design director Gilles Vidal, whose influence was already showing in the range. The car shared its core structure and mechanical parts with the first-generation 3008 and was made in five and seven-seat forms. What Car? made it its MPV of the Year for 2010, and its spacious interior and futuristic design earned it a following among owners who came to call it the Space Wagon.
The first generation was facelifted in October 2013, when the range also gained the PureTech three-cylinder petrol engines and newer BlueHDi diesels.
The second generation (P87)
The second 5008 is an SUV. It was shown to the press on 7 September 2016 before its public appearance at the Paris Motor Show that year, and it is essentially a seven-seat version of the 3008 that followed it in the spring of 2017. Its wheelbase is 165 mm longer and the car weighs about 50 kg more than the 3008. It is assembled at Rennes in France and, in China, at the Dongfeng PSA plant in Chengdu together with the 3008 II, sold there as the 4008, and the Citroën C5 Aircross; in China the three share platform, engines and transmissions.
Unlike the pure MPV of the first generation, the 2017 car is an SUV, an extended 3008 with a different front grille and bumper and a chrome arch running along the roof to the bottom of the rear window. Inside it has the iCockpit of the smaller car, with an 8-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital panel. The 2.84 m wheelbase made room for three rows: the passenger seat in the first row can be folded to carry long objects, the second row has three independent seats that slide and recline, and the third row has two seats that fold individually. A facelift was shown in September 2020, following the 3008 and 308 design language, and a mild hybrid version arrived in February 2023. The third generation was introduced in March 2024 on the STLA Medium platform and built at Sochaux.
