The 4007 was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2007 and officially launched on 12 July 2007. It was produced at Mitsubishi’s Nagoya plant in Okazaki, Japan, on the basis of the second-generation Outlander, and shared the project with the Citroën C-Crosser. Together the two were the first Japan-built cars sold under a French brand, and the plan was for 30,000 sales a year.

Both cars were supposed to be assembled at the Nedcar plant in Born in the Netherlands for the European market, but the plan was postponed indefinitely when sales fell below that 30,000 target.

Engines

The main engine was a 2.2-litre DW12 HDi turbodiesel four-cylinder of 156 PS and 380 Nm, with a particulate filter, a six-speed gearbox and the ability to run on 30% biodiesel. A 2.0-litre 4B11 petrol of 147 PS, the same engine as the Outlander’s, was offered in Russia only, while a 2.4-litre 4B12 MIVEC petrol of 170 PS was also shared with the Outlander.

Trims

There were three trim levels, all with the 2.2 HDi: SE with alloy wheels, climate control, heated mirrors and power steering; Sport XS, which added leather seats and a telephone; and GT, which added headlamp washers, a CD multichanger, heated leather seats and a telephone.

Design and features

  • Mitsubishi build: produced at Okazaki on the Outlander platform.
  • Citroën twin: the C-Crosser was the same car with a different badge.
  • 2.2 HDi: 156 PS and 380 Nm, able to run on 30% biodiesel.
  • Second-generation Outlander base: a compact crossover with the hardware that came with it.
  • Short life: five years, with a planned Dutch assembly never realised.

Peugeot 4007 versions

  • SE: the standard car with alloy wheels and climate control.
  • Sport XS: leather seats and a telephone.
  • GT: headlamp washers, CD multichanger and heated leather seats.
  • Citroën C-Crosser: the equivalent model from the other PSA brand.

The 4007 was the smaller relative of the Peugeot 5008 in the crossover range and sat alongside the 308. More in the Peugeot collection.
