Officine Meccaniche was founded in Milan in 1899 from the merger of two engineering firms and first built railway rolling stock. Car production began in 1918 with the Tipo S305, after the takeover of the Zust car company of Brescia.
Fiat took over OM in 1933, and passenger car sales ended the following year as the company concentrated on commercial vehicles and train parts. In 1975 it was absorbed into Iveco, though the name survives as a forklift builder.
