The New Holland TN series was the company’s line of compact utility tractors — small, manoeuvrable machines sold from the TN 65 up to the TN 95 and named in several versions, such as the TN 75 F and the TN 75 S. The film below shows a TN 95 working. The sources used for this page describe the company, not the series.

History of the New Holland TN series

Small tractors for small work

The TN series was built for the buyers who need a tractor but not a large one: smallholdings, orchards, vineyards, livestock units and yards. Four-wheel drive was common, the tractors were narrow enough for rows and yards, and the model suffixes marked different specifications — D, F and S versions were sold with different tyres, transmissions and equipment. A front loader turned the same machine into a yard loader.

The range around it

The TN sat below the mid-range TL series and far below the high-horsepower TM tractors, and together these three lines covered most of what New Holland sold to European farms around the turn of the century. It was also the period in which the brand settled: after Ford bought Sperry New Holland in 1986 and Fiat took 80 per cent in 1991, the New Holland name was launched worldwide in 1996 and the colours were unified in 2000. In 1999 the company merged with Case to form CNH, later CNH Industrial.

The tractor in the film

The film below follows a TN 95 through a full day’s work in Germany — the kind of unglamorous, productive use these tractors were built for. Later New Holland compact utility tractors carry the T4 and similar designations. The sources used here do not give the TN series’ engines, powers or production years, and this page does not invent them.
