The KamAZ-65115 is one of the plant’s most numerous tippers: a fifteen-tonne dump truck in production since 1999. It replaced the KamAZ-55111 and has been built as a chassis for municipal machinery as often as a tipper.

History of the KamAZ-65115

The first prototype of the 65115 was built in 1998 and series production began in 1999. The lorry is the successor of the Soviet-era KamAZ-55111, which stayed in production alongside it until 2012, and the differences are those of a generation: a payload of fifteen tonnes instead of thirteen, a strengthened chassis and running gear, steering taken from the KamAZ-4310 and a modernised three-seat cab with heat and noise insulation.

The platform is all-metal, and its rear board is heated with exhaust gases so that wet loads do not freeze to it in winter. Throughout the model’s history the truck has been fitted with the ten-speed KamAZ-154 manual gearbox, and the clutch comes from the German supplier ZF Friedrichshafen. The engines have kept pace with the emission rules: the current versions meet Euro 5.

The model is one of the plant’s volume sellers. By 2021 a total of 135,864 KamAZ-65115 tippers had been built, a figure that explains how common the type is on Russian roads. The same index has also been used for chassis supplied with special equipment, and the photographs on this page show how often the 65115 ends up under a sprinkler, a refuse body, a crane or a vacuum tank rather than under a tipper: it is the standard heavy municipal base of the KamAZ range.

Design and features

  • Fifteen-tonne payload: two tonnes more than the KamAZ-55111 it replaced.
  • Ten-speed KamAZ-154: the same gearbox throughout the model’s production.
  • Heated rear board: exhaust gases keep wet loads from freezing to the platform.
  • Modern cab: three seats, heat and noise insulation and KamAZ-4310 steering.
  • Huge production: 135,864 tippers built by 2021.

KamAZ-65115 versions

  • KamAZ-65115 tipper: the standard fifteen-tonne dump truck.
  • KamAZ-65115 chassis: a bare chassis for municipal and special bodies.
  • Sprinkler and refuse versions: municipal bodies on the 65115 chassis.
  • Crane and vacuum versions: further special applications of the same chassis.
  • Euro 5 versions: the current engine specification.

The 65115 replaced the KamAZ-55111 and is the direct relative of the KamAZ-65111; the bigger KamAZ-6520 serves the heaviest sites. More trucks are in the KamAZ collection.
