The KamAZ-55111 is the thirteen-tonne tipper that KamAZ built from January 1989 to 2012. It looked much like the earlier KamAZ-5511 but carried a shorter body with a folding tailgate, stronger springs and the steering box of the KamAZ-4310.

History of the KamAZ-55111
The 55111 differs from the earlier KamAZ-5511 in a shorter body with a folding tailgate, reinforced springs and the hydraulic steering of the KamAZ-4310, and its payload was raised to thirteen tonnes. The first examples still had the cab of the original 5511, which makes the earliest trucks hard to tell apart from their predecessor. Production began in January 1989 and continued until 2012, when the KamAZ-65115 replaced the model completely.

The cab is an all-metal type with two seats, mounted over the engine with a high roof and insulated against noise and cold. It has no sleeping place, which tells you that the lorry was meant for daytime work: a tipper normally returns to the yard at night rather than living on the road. The platform is an all-welded box construction that discharges to the rear and is heated by the exhaust system, a simple trick that stops wet loads from freezing to the steel in winter.
The model was offered with several engines, each with its own suffix. The basic 55111 used the KamAZ-740.10-20, the 55111-02 had the KamAZ-740.11-240 of Euro 1 standard, the 55111-13 the KamAZ-740.13-260, also Euro 1, and the 55111-15 the KamAZ-740.31-240 in Euro 2 form. In its 55111-15 specification the lorry weighs 9,050 kg, carries thirteen tonnes and has a gross weight of 22,400 kg, with 10.00 or 11.00 R20 tyres, a 6.6 m³ body tipping to 60 degrees, a top speed of 90 km/h, a 25 per cent gradient capability and a 9 m turning circle. Four trim levels were listed, the 015-15, 016-15, 017-15 and 018-15, which differed in small details.
The 55111 was not alone for long: in 2003 the plant began building the new-generation KamAZ-65111 with a higher payload alongside it, and both models remained in the catalogue until the 65115 took over. Like the 5511, the thirteen-tonne tipper may still be assembled in North Korea, where first-generation KamAZ trucks have long been produced.
