History of the Jelcz T120
Competition most likely pushed the Jelcz designers into modernising the PR110D. A prototype of the tourist T120, fitted with an air conditioner for the passenger compartment, was shown at the Poznań International Fair in 1993, and the bus kept the identical construction and external dimensions of the PR110D, with only cosmetic changes to the body. Those changes focused on the interior finish: fibre fleece linings on the ceiling and side walls, an additional carpet in the aisle, different seat fabrics, two extra folding seats above the rear door recess, a separate luggage space for the driver and improved lighting and sound. A guide seat and a radio-cassette player were optional, and several independent water heaters kept the interior warm. The source dates series production at Jelcz to 1992, when the T120 replaced the D120 in the offer, and the tourist prototype was presented a year later.

The T120 received a modernised power unit, the turbocharged SWT11/311 diesel of 260 hp, mounted vertically behind the rear axle and coupled to a six-speed S6-90 manual gearbox. The MT1032.A final drive was modernised with a lower ratio of 5.125, against 5.86 in the PR110D, and the new engine required small structural changes to the rear of the frame. The bus was quieter than the PR110D, mainly through changes to the exhaust system and compartment insulation, and its top speed was 106 km/h. Depending on equipment, the T120 carried 48 to 50 passengers, with kerb weights of 10,750 kg for the Standard and 10,800 kg for the Komfort, both with a gross weight of 16,000 kg.
The Standard version had sliding upper windows in the side glazing, two electric extractor fans, two roof hatches and passenger seats without reclining. The tourist T120 Komfort added air ducts with electric fans and individual vents at every seat, and reclining aircraft-style seats, while giving up the sliding windows; a toilet and air conditioning were available as options. The designers planned to offer the stronger SWT11/309 engine of 280 hp in the Komfort, but the plan was never carried out. As in the PR110D, the doors were arranged 2-0-1: the first automatic and outward-opening, the second opened by hand, with a further hand-operated door for the driver on the left of the front overhang. Under the floor there were 6 m³ of luggage space with aluminium flaps, which helped protect the body against corrosion.
