History of the Jelcz 410
The 410 was created as a stopgap. The plan was a new Jelcz 420 family with licensed Steyr engines and drive axles, but the economic crisis of the 1980s made it impossible to start production of those models, and the imported components that would have been paid for in hard currency were replaced by older parts already used in the Jelcz 300 family: SW 680 engines and Raba drive axles imported from Hungary.
What was new on the 410 was the chassis and the cab. The trucks received new frames and new front axles rated at 6.5 tonnes, based on licensed Steyr technology, and the old cab gave way to the tilting types 136 and 134. In this form the family covered the 415 as a two-axle truck, the 416 with a three-axle 6×2 layout and the C417 as a two-axle tractor unit.
The result was a truck that looked like a new generation but carried the running gear of the previous one, and the real step forward came with the second generation, the Jelcz 422, which brought a wider range of engines including the Detroit Diesel Series 60.
