The Husqvarna WRE is a 125 cc dual-purpose motorcycle built by Husqvarna from 1994 to 2013. It was made for mixed town and light off-road use rather than competition, and it is often confused with the competition enduro WR, which has a similar name.

History of the Husqvarna WRE 125

A dual-purpose 125

The WRE was produced from 1994 to 2013 in a single capacity, 125 cc, for off-road use but not for competition. Although it looks similar to the WR and on the 1994 to 1996 models uses the same 56 x 50.6 mm engine dimensions, it has a more classic frame, a less extreme braking system, a larger fuel tank of 10.2 litres instead of 7, a seat shaped for easier seating and a more silenced exhaust.

A softer engine

The engine was designed to behave more smoothly and linearly, and it uses an exhaust system controlled electronically rather than mechanically. In 2008 the Dell’Orto ECS system was introduced to meet emissions rules, at the cost of about 10 kg more weight, which brought the machine to 110 kg ready to ride.

Design and features

  • Bigger tank: 10.2 litres against 7 litres on the competition WR.
  • Comfort seat: shaped to make seating easier on the road.
  • Quieter exhaust: more silenced than the WR’s.
  • Electronic exhaust valve: controlled by electronics rather than mechanically.
  • Emissions equipment: the Dell’Orto ECS system from 2008, with about 10 kg more weight.

Husqvarna WRE 125 versions

  • WRE 125 (1994–2013): the dual-purpose model, with the 56 x 50.6 mm engine on the first years.
  • 2008 model: Dell’Orto ECS emissions system and a ready-to-ride weight of about 110 kg.
  • SM 125: the supermoto version that joined the range in 1998.

The WRE is often compared with the competition Husqvarna WR, and its supermoto relative is the SM. More Husqvarna models are in the Husqvarna collection.
