History of the Husqvarna Corona

The scooter moped

The Corona was a moped built at the Husqvarna works in Huskvarna from 1958 to 1960. It was laid out as a scooter, with wind protection for the rider’s legs and the fuel tank hidden inside the body under the seat. The seat was covered in black imitation leather and could be folded up to reach the tank.

The moped was offered in two colour schemes: sun yellow with black decoration, and cherry red with cream-white decoration.

Engine and transmission

Power came from a two-speed 49 cc two-stroke single of the type known as an egg engine, started by a kickstart and fitted with bicycle pedals. Instead of the more usual gear wheel, the gearbox used a toothed belt between the clutch and the crankshaft. The Corona was fitted with a Magura twist-grip gear control on the handlebar, had a top speed of about 25 km/h on level ground and carried 5.5 litres of fuel. It also had a freewheel on the higher gear.

Design and features

  • Scooter body: leg shields and the fuel tank built into the body under the seat.
  • Folding seat: the black imitation-leather seat lifted to give access to the tank.
  • Egg engine: a 49 cc two-stroke two-speed with kickstart and bicycle pedals.
  • Toothed belt drive: a belt between clutch and crankshaft instead of the usual gear wheel.
  • Two colour schemes: sun yellow with black trim, or cherry red with cream trim.

Husqvarna Corona versions

  • Sun yellow: yellow bodywork with black decoration.
  • Cherry red: red bodywork with cream-white decoration.

The Corona was one of Husqvarna’s small two-wheelers of the 1950s; the firm’s racing and off-road models are in the Husqvarna collection, such as the Husqvarna 500 racer and the CR motocross line.
