History of the Fiat 300
A heavy range with several drivelines
The Fiat 300 belonged to the heavy range of Fiat Veicoli Industriali, the commercial vehicle division of Fiat before the creation of Iveco. The range was offered with various drivelines, among them the famous 6×4. The type was built from 1974 to 1982.
Engines and uses
Two engine sizes were available: one of 13,798 cc producing 260 hp, and one of 17,174 cc producing 330 or 352 hp. The main uses were the articulated lorry, the site lorry with a tipper body or a crane, and the tractor unit with or without chassis.
Versions
The range opened with the PC26/PT, a 6×4 articulated lorry of 56 tonnes for the Italian market, powered by the 13,798 cc engine of 260 hp and built from 1974 to 1982. A 6×4 site lorry with the 17,174 cc engine of 330 hp followed in 1976 and stayed in the catalogue until 1978. From 1978 to 1981 Fiat offered the PC/300 F26 and F35, 6×4 site lorries with the 17,174 cc engine at 352 hp, and the version list also mentions a PA 6×6. The last addition, in 1980 and 1981, was the PT33/PT35, a tractor unit for site work with a semi-trailer, using the 17,174 cc engine in 330 or 352 hp form.
The Iveco years
Throughout its career, and since, the lorry has also been known as the Iveco 300, following the transformation of Fiat Veicoli Industriali into Iveco. The type left the production lines in 1979 but continued to be sold for another three years, until 1982, when it finally gave way to the more modern Iveco 330, which had been in production since 1979.
