History of the Case VAC
The small Case tractor
After Case gave up steam in 1927 and cars in the same year, it concentrated on petrol tractors and farm machinery. The VAC belongs to the small end of that range, the machines bought by mixed farms that could not justify a big field tractor.
A working survivor
The film shows a VAC running, which is the best evidence of the model available here: a small, simple tractor kept alive by its owner. The sources used for this page describe the company and its purchasing of Emerson-Brantingham and Rock Island Plow in those years, not the VAC itself.
Design and features
- Small tractor: the size bought by mixed farms rather than large estates.
- Case in the 1930s: built while the company was assembling a full farm range.
- Surviving example: the machine in the film still runs.
- No specification: the sources give no figures for the model.
Case VAC versions
- Case VAC: the tractor shown in the film.
- Case L and LA: the larger tractors of the same years.
- Case D series: another line of the period.
The larger tractors of the period are on the Case L and LA and Case D series pages. Earlier machines are on the Case 10-18 page, and everything is in the Case section.
