History of the Yamaha X-City

The X-City was introduced in 2007 as a maxi-scooter with large wheels, available with a 125 cc or a 250 cc engine. Both engines are water-cooled four-strokes with catalytic converters and Euro 3 compliance, and both use fuel injection and a fully automatic transmission. Internally the models are designated VP125 and VP250.

Yamaha manufactured and assembled the X-City in Italy using Minarelli engines. The scooter has a 16-inch front wheel and a 15-inch rear wheel, an underseat trunk that can hold one helmet and a lockable glovebox at the front. The instruments include a speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, coolant temperature gauge and an ambient temperature gauge with a frost warning, and the fuel tank holds 10.5 litres.

The X-City was marketed in Europe, mainly in Italy, France, Spain, the United Kingdom and Germany, but not in Asia or North America. It replaced the Yamaha Varsity 300 in the range and was itself followed by the Yamaha X-MAX. The 2009 model received a four-position height-adjustable windscreen and a rear carrier base.
