History of the Ursus 2812
The model began as a licence-built Massey Ferguson. Ursus started assembling it in November 1978 from parts supplied by the licensor, and between 1978 and 1984 4,014 tractors were built in this way. The arrangement gave the Polish factory access to a modern small-tractor design at a time when its own light models, the C-330 among them, were ageing.
In 1986 serial production began using mostly Polish-made components, and a number of changes and improvements were introduced. After the licence expired in 1988 the model was renamed Ursus 2812; under that name it remained in production until 2009. The line is classified as class 4 in the Polish farm machinery system.
The engine was a three-cylinder diesel of 2,502 cc, the Perkins AD3.152, replaced in the U2812 by the Ursus 3250. It produced 28 kW, or 38 hp, at 2,000 rpm and 144 Nm of torque, with a specific fuel consumption of 228 g/kWh. Direct injection, a four-stroke cycle and an in-line layout kept the unit simple and easy to service.
A gearbox with eight forward and two reverse speeds, a hydraulic lift with draft, position, reaction-speed and pressure control and a lift capacity of 1,180 kg completed the package. The 2812 was never a large or powerful tractor, but it suited small and medium farms, and its long production life shows how well the licensed design fitted Polish conditions.
Design and features
- Massey Ferguson design: a licensed small tractor adapted to Polish production.
- Three-cylinder Perkins diesel: 2,502 cc, 38 hp and 144 Nm.
- Simple 8/2 gearbox: few ratios, easy maintenance.
- Versatile hydraulic lift: draft, position, reaction-speed and pressure control, 1,180 kg capacity.
Ursus 2812 versions
- MF-235 (1978–1988): the original licence-built model, partly assembled from imported parts.
- Ursus 2812 (1988–2009): the renamed version built after the licence expired.
- U2812: version using the Polish Ursus 3250 engine instead of the Perkins AD3.152.
The 2812 was the smaller relative of the Ursus 3512, another Massey Ferguson licence, and it sat below the classic Ursus C-330. More tractors are in the Ursus collection.
