The Ursus 1634 was the turbocharged version of the big Warsaw-built tractor, produced from 1990 to 2009. Its 6,842 cc six-cylinder DS Martin diesel developed 155 hp and 566.6 Nm, and a synchronized 12/6 gearbox with a torque multiplier sent the power to four large wheels.

History of the Ursus 1634
The 1634 appeared in 1990 as the turbocharged member of the heavy Ursus family. Where the 1614 relied on a naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine, the 1634 used the same DS Martin Z 8602.12 with a K27 turbocharger and a Motorpal injection pump, which gave 114 kW and 566.6 Nm from 6,842 cc. Production ran until 2009 and came to 2,210 tractors, roughly half the output of the 1614.

The driveline was built for heavy fieldwork. A hydraulically engaged torque multiplier with a ratio of 1.34 sat behind the clutch, and the synchronized gearbox, made by Povazske strojarne and later Manet, provided 12 forward and 6 reverse speeds. The rear axle used a final drive with planetary reductions, and the mechanical differential lock was operated from the cab. The independent PTO offered 540 or 1000 rpm and delivered up to 103 kW at rated speed.
The hydraulics used gear pumps of Polish manufacture and supplied 55 litres a minute through five outlets at 16 MPa, with a rear linkage rated at 5,500 kg. Steering was hydrostatic, with the steering wheel supplied by FMR Pilmet. On the road the tractor weighed 5,190 kg without ballast and 6,300 kg with it, on 14.9 R28 front and 20.8 R38 rear tyres, with a 2,706 mm wheelbase and 500 mm ground clearance.
The cab was a significant part of the package. Early tractors used the M87U cab, later ones the two-seat M97 with a noise level below 80 dBA, built by FMR Agromet Kunow. Seats came from SA50/1 or Grammer, instruments from Meratronik Szczecin and KMGY in Hungary, and ventilation and heating from ZSM Ostrow Wielkopolski. For a Polish tractor of its generation, this was a comparatively comfortable workplace for long days in the field.
Design and features
- Turbocharged six-cylinder: 6,842 cc, 155 hp and 566.6 Nm from the DS Martin Z 8602.12 TURBO.
- Torque multiplier: hydraulically engaged, ratio 1.34, for heavy draft work.
- Synchronized 12/6 gearbox: Polish-built under Povazske strojarne and Manet licence.
- Two-seat M97 cab: later tractors had a cab rated below 80 dBA.
- Heavy hydraulics: 55 l/min, five outlets and a 5,500 kg lift.
Ursus 1634 versions
- Early M87U cab: the first tractors of 1990 used the older single-seat cab.
- Later M97 cab: two-seat cab with lower noise, used towards the end of production.
- Ballasted working version: weight raised to 6,300 kg for ploughing.
- Turbocharged sibling of the 1614: same power rating, different engine specification.
The 1634 sat above the naturally aspirated Ursus 1614 in the heavy range, while the four-cylinder Ursus 912 covered the medium class. More tractors are in the Ursus collection.
