History of the Triumph Trophy

A shaft-drive tourer

The Trophy was produced by Triumph Motorcycles from 2012 to 2017 as a dedicated touring motorcycle. It used a 1215 cc liquid-cooled, twelve-valve in-line three-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed gearbox and shaft drive, a combination aimed at long-distance comfort rather than outright performance.

Shared engine, different tune

The same engine also powered the dual-sport Tiger Explorer. In the Trophy it produced slightly less power and had a taller sixth gear, which suited the bike’s touring role and made high-speed cruising more relaxed.

The SE

The base model was complemented by the SE, which added electronically adjustable suspension, a Bluetooth audio system and a tyre-pressure monitoring system. In the United States, Canada, Australia and Brazil the SE was the only version sold.

Design and features

  • 1215 cc triple — the twelve-valve engine shared with the Tiger Explorer.
  • Shaft drive — six-speed gearbox and shaft final drive for touring.
  • Taller sixth gear — tuned for relaxed cruising rather than peak power.
  • SE specification — electronic suspension, Bluetooth audio and tyre-pressure monitoring.

Triumph Trophy versions

  • Trophy (2012–2017): the base touring model.
  • Trophy SE: electronic suspension, Bluetooth audio and TPMS; the only version in some markets.

The Trophy shares its engine family with the Tiger Explorer and the Hinckley triples, and its touring role with the Sprint. More in the Triumph collection.
