The Tomos LX was the top-tank member of the family that began with the Targa. When the Targa and Targa LX were renamed TOMOS ST and TOMOS LX in the 1990s, the LX kept the top-tank layout and the 49 cc A35 engine.

History of the Tomos LX
From Targa to LX
In the 1990s Tomos introduced the Sprint together with the Targa and Targa LX, and a new engine called the A35. The Targa and Targa LX were eventually renamed TOMOS ST and TOMOS LX. The LX was thus the continuation of the Targa LX, and it stayed in the range with the top-tank layout that distinguished it from the step-through models.
The A35 engine
The A35 was built from 1991 to 2006 as the successor of the A3. It was an air-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke of 49 cc with a bore and stroke of 38 × 43 mm and a compression ratio of 10:1, producing 3 kW (4 PS) and 3.4 Nm at 3,500 rpm. Tomos used it in the Bullet, Bullet TT, Colibri, Golden Bullet, Sprint, Sprint TT, Targa, Targa LX, Tomos LX, TT Classic and Revival, and offered moped versions named A35, A35S, A35L and A35SL.
The end of the A35
In 2006 the A35 was replaced by the A55 engine with lighter rotating parts and better power output. The LX belongs to the generation of Tomos mopeds that ended with that change, after a run that had begun with the Targa in the 1990s.
Design and features
- Top-tank layout: the LX was the top-tank model of the range, as opposed to the step-through Sprint and TOMOS ST.
- Targa lineage: the model was the renamed Targa LX of the 1990s.
- A35 engine: a 49 cc air-cooled two-stroke with 3 kW (4 PS).
