The Steyr 650 was a tractor of the Plus series that Steyr-Daimler-Puch built from 1971 to 1977. It replaced the Steyr 50 after the Plus models were given three-digit type numbers, and it carried a body drawn by the French industrial designer Louis Lucien Lepoix.

History of the Steyr 650
New numbers for the Plus series
In 1971 Steyr gave the existing Plus series, which had consisted of the types Steyr 30, 40, 50, 70 and 90, three-digit type numbers for marketing reasons, and at the same time made a number of changes that also affected performance. The new Steyr 650 therefore replaced the Steyr 50 with a slightly smaller engine and a low-mounted exhaust.
Engine and transmission
The water-cooled WD 408.81 diesel had four cylinders and a displacement of 3.140 litres, and produced about 37 kW (50 PS). The gearbox offered 16 forward and eight reverse gears, and on request up to 16 forward and 16 reverse. The top speed was quoted as 30 km/h. The tractor was available as the Steyr 650 with rear-wheel drive and as the Steyr 650 a with all-wheel drive, and a cab could be ordered.
Design
The body of the Steyr 650 was drawn by the French industrial designer Louis Lucien Lepoix, whose work gave the Plus-series tractors their clean, functional shape and set them apart from the older Steyr tractor styling.
