The article is based on a single source, the English Wikipedia page on the Beverly; it is shorter than usual for that reason.

History of the Piaggio Beverly

The Beverly was introduced in 2001 with engine sizes ranging from 125 to 500 cc, and early models were powered by Piaggio’s water-cooled L.E.A.D.E.R. engine. In 2005 versions of 250 cm3 and 500 cm3 were also presented, and the engine range was subsequently expanded to 300 cm3, 350 cm3 and 400 cm3. From 2006 all models used electronic injection instead of carburettors.

Redesigns and equipment

The body was redesigned in 2004 and again in 2009. The Beverly is sold either as a Tourer or as a Cruiser, and comes in Beverly and Beverly S versions. It uses LED lighting and turn signals, and the compartment under the seat holds two open helmets; the higher-powered models come with ABS as standard.

The master cylinder rule

From 2013 Piaggio prescribed changing the brake master cylinder every 15,000 km on the Beverly 350. The higher pressures of ABS brakes put more load on the seals, so the parts had to be checked and replaced regularly, at a cost of about 500 euros. With the 2014 model year the obligatory change was dropped.

The new Beverly of 2021

The latest Beverly keeps the continuity of the older models in its design while outperforming them. It uses Euro 5 HPE — High Performance Engine — units of 300 or 400 cc: single-cylinder four-stroke, four-valve, liquid-cooled engines with electronic injection, built for lower noise and fuel consumption. Piaggio claims 23% more power and 16% more torque for the 300 cc HPE against the previous model, and 17% more power and 30% more torque for the 400 cc against the old 350, which delivers over 35 horsepower. A new “navigation bridge” houses a digital 5.5-inch LCD instrument panel with the controls on each side of the handlebar, and all lights and indicators are LED except the lamp in the storage area. The colour schemes are Bianco Luna, Blu Oxygen and Grigio Cloud.

Design and features

  • Big wheels, big range: one scooter line covering 125 to 500 cc, from town use to touring.
  • Two characters: the Tourer and the Cruiser versions with different equipment.
  • Practical storage: room for two open helmets under the seat.
  • Modern electrics: LED lighting, ABS on the stronger models and a 5.5-inch LCD panel on the 2021 cars.

Piaggio Beverly versions

  • Beverly 125–500 (from 2001): the original range on the L.E.A.D.E.R. engine.
  • Beverly S: the sportier trim of the same scooter.
  • Tourer and Cruiser: two equipment lines introduced with the redesigns.
  • Beverly 350: the model with the prescribed master cylinder change of 2013–2014.
  • New Beverly 300 and 400 HPE (2021): Euro 5 engines with more power and torque.

The Beverly sits between the smaller Carnaby and the larger touring scooters such as the X9; the Liberty is the lighter high-wheeled alternative. More models are in the Piaggio collection.
