The Pegaso 2000 series takes in the 2010, 2011, 2020 and 2080, the semi-trailer tractors that became the everyday sight on Spanish motorways. The 2011 was the flagship of the Pegaso range in the 1960s, and the 2080 led the 1972 generation with its square, modern cab.

History of the Pegaso 2000

The 2011 was the Pegaso flagship of the 1960s, the tractor that hauled semi-trailers across Spain and into the rest of Europe in TIR sealed-container traffic. At the time Pegaso also built eight-wheeled rigids, six-wheeled tractors, six-wheeled off-road dumpers, a ten-wheeled conversion for the Dutch market and three-axle articulated buses, all with its own engines of up to 352 hp.

In 1972 ENASA launched a complete new heavy range with a spacious, modernist cubic cab. Its articulated tractors, first the 250 hp 2080 and later the 310 hp tilt-cab 2181, became the workhorses of Spanish long-distance haulage, and the square cab changed the look of Pegaso lorries for a generation.

The 1970s were the marque’s peak: production passed 26,000 vehicles in 1974, and Pegaso exported to the Benelux countries, Venezuela and Cuba. After the 1990 sale of ENASA to Iveco the name faded from new models; the last Pegaso lorry, a Troner, was built in 1994.
