History of the Opel Vivaro

Three generations

The Vivaro is Opel’s mid-size van, the size below the Movano and above the Combo. Its first generation, the Vivaro A, was produced from 2001 to 2014 and was based on the second-generation Renault Trafic, the result of the Renault-Nissan alliance that also supplied Opel with the Movano. The Vivaro B followed from 2014 to 2019, based on the third-generation Renault Trafic, again a shared development.

After PSA

When Opel and Vauxhall joined PSA Group, the technical basis of the van changed. The Vivaro C, in production since 2019, is based on the third-generation Citroën Jumpy, one of the vans built by the Sevel joint venture that also supplies the Fiat and Peugeot versions. As with the earlier generations, the van is sold in the United Kingdom as the Vauxhall Vivaro.

Design and features

  • Shared engineering: each Vivaro has been based on a van from another manufacturer.
  • Renault years: the first two generations used Renault Trafic platforms.
  • PSA years: the third generation uses the Citroën Jumpy.
  • British badge: sold as the Vauxhall Vivaro in the United Kingdom.
