Nissan Versa is a nameplate used by Nissan in the Americas. According to a Nissan press release of 2008, “versa” is short for “versatile space”, meant to suggest the roominess of the interior and its configurable cargo arrangements. Nissan discontinued the Versa in the United States after the 2025 model year, with production ending in December 2025.

History of the Nissan Versa

The name

The Versa name was chosen for the Americas rather than the Tiida badge used in Japan and elsewhere. Nissan said in 2008 that “versa” stood for versatile space, pointing to the interior room and the ways the cargo area could be arranged in a car of its size.

The end in America

Nissan discontinued the Versa in the United States after the 2025 model year, with production ending in December 2025 and no 2026 model available. It ended its run as the cheapest new car on sale in America at under $20,000. Nissan cited a product strategy shift toward higher-margin vehicles such as the Sentra and Kicks, which now cover the small-car end of the American range.

Design and features

  • Americas nameplate: the Tiida’s name in the western hemisphere.
  • Versatile space: the marketing idea behind the name.
  • Lowest price: the last new car in the US under $20,000.
  • Ended in 2025: sales and production stopped.

Nissan Versa versions

  • Nissan Versa: the nameplate sold across the Americas.
  • Versa Note: the hatchback version sold in North America.

The Versa was the American name for the Tiida and its hatchback relative was the Versa Note, while the Sentra now covers the same ground. More cars are in the Nissan collection.
