Nissan Liberta Villa: a Japanese market name, 1982–1990

Nissan Liberta Villa was a model name used in Japan between 1982 and 1990 for separate variants of the Nissan Pulsar N12 and the Nissan Sunny N13. It was a home-market name rather than an export model, which is why it is little known outside Japan.

History of the Nissan Liberta Villa

A name for two cars

Between 1982 and 1990 Liberta Villa was used on the Japanese home market for independent variants of two compact Nissans: the Pulsar N12 and, later, the Sunny N13. The cars were not a single model of their own but versions of those two ranges, sold under their own name alongside them.

Why it is little known

Because the name was used only in Japan, no export version carried it, and it does not appear in the export naming that Nissan used for the Pulsar and Sunny in Europe and North America. Even in Japanese reference works it is treated as a line of the parent models rather than a full model in its own right.

Design and features

  • Home-market only: never used as an export name.
  • Two bases: the Pulsar N12 and the Sunny N13.
  • Separate variants: sold under their own name beside the parent cars.

Nissan Liberta Villa versions

  • Liberta Villa on the Pulsar N12 (from 1982): the first use of the name.
  • Liberta Villa on the Sunny N13 (to 1990): the later version.

The name was tied to the Pulsar and the Sunny. More cars are in the Nissan collection.
