History of the MAN TGS

The TGS was introduced in 2007 as one of the two heavy models that replaced the TGA, the other being the TGX. Both were part of the second generation of the TG range and shared the new cab and the available transmissions, including TipMatic.

Updates

In 2012 all new TG models were revealed with a chrome Lion grille and updated styling, largely the same powertrain but now Euro 6 compliant. A facelift in 2016 brought a refreshed lower bumper and a black-backed Lion logo on the grille; the TGS and TGX gained 20 hp and 100 Nm across all engines and became Euro 6c compliant. A minor facelift in 2019 added a refreshed interior and instrument cluster, another 10 hp and 100 Nm, and Euro 6d engines.

Electric version

In October 2023 MAN started selling electric versions of the TGX and TGS, named eTGX and eTGS. The electric motor produces 254, 330 or 400 kW depending on the application, with 800, 1,150 or 1,250 Nm of torque, and the trucks support Megawatt Charging System and Combined Charging System standards.

Design and features

  • Heavy TG model: launched in 2007 as one of the two heavy trucks of the range, alongside the TGX.
  • Shared updates: the TGS received the same 2012, 2016 and 2019 changes as the TGX, including the power increases.
  • Electric eTGS: a zero-emission version with 254 to 400 kW and up to 800 km of range.
  • Alternative fuels: the electric version is sold alongside the diesel models.

MAN TGS versions

  • TGS diesel: the standard heavy truck introduced in 2007.
  • 2012 specification: Euro 6 engines and the chrome Lion grille.
  • 2019 specification: Euro 6d engines with 10 hp and 100 Nm more.
  • eTGS: electric version on sale from October 2023.

The TGS was launched together with the MAN TGX and replaced the MAN TGA. More MAN trucks are in the MAN collection.
