History of the Malaguti Password
Development of the new Malaguti medium high-wheeled scooter started at the end of 2003. The entire project cost more than five million euros and lasted 18 months; in May 2005 the Password was officially presented to the public and sales began immediately in Italy.
The scooter was available with the Yamaha 250 engine, produced in Italy by Minarelli, delivering 20.8 hp at 7,500 rpm and approved to the Euro 2 standard. The front suspension was a hydraulic fork with 35 mm stanchions, while at the rear a double adjustable shock absorber was adopted. The braking system consisted of a 270 mm front disc and a 240 mm rear disc. The saddle was 778 mm from the ground and the wheelbase measured 1,484 mm. The wheels were 16 inches with tubeless tyres of 110/70/16 at the front and 140/70/16 at the rear, and the weight was 162 kg.
In May 2007 the engine was homologated to Euro 3. Production ended in April 2011 following the financial difficulties of the parent company, which also ended the Centro and the other Malaguti models built at Castel San Pietro Terme. The Password had been intended to sit between the Ciak and the larger Madison in the range, offering the big-wheel layout of the Italian high-wheel tradition with a 250 cc engine.
