History of the Landini Trekker
1959 and the first crawler
Landini had built wheeled tractors since the 1920s, but tracked machines came late in its history. In 1959, the same year in which the firm passed under the control of Massey Ferguson, it presented the C35, its first crawler tractor. The Italian company history notes that Landini went on to become the leader in that type of machine, as it would later become the leader in specialist orchard tractors.
Crawlers and earthmoving
The crawler experience led the company into a related field. From 1968 the Fabbrico firm entered the high-power earthmoving machinery segment with the opening of a plant at Aprilia, south of Rome. On the agricultural side the crawler remained part of the catalogue alongside wheeled tractors, and the Trekker is the modern expression of that line, sold with the same kind of general-purpose and specialist duties in mind as the wheeled range.
The range around the Trekker
The Trekker belongs to the broad catalogue of the years after the company’s return to independence in 1989 and its move into the Argo group in 1994. In those years Landini was selling medium-power tractors, big machines of the Large series and specialist orchard models, and the tracked machines served farms where grip and low ground pressure mattered. The tractor in the video is shown working in the field, the setting in which crawlers are normally seen.
