History of the KrAZ-6322
From 1989, while the three-axle KrAZ trucks of the 6315 family were being developed under the code name Otkrytie, the plant introduced some of their features on the KrAZ-260 then in production: simplified wings from the 6315, matching side panels, more powerful engines with revised transmissions, modern lights and tyres. The experimental KrAZ-E6322 was built in 1989 and the experimental KrAZ-63221E in 1991.

In 1994 the ten-tonne, 330 hp KrAZ-6322 flatbed truck replaced the 260 series. It used the front-end design and wings of the later 260 but had a stamping in the bonnet for a taller engine, a slightly raised cab roof, a modified bumper and larger mirrors. From the Otkrytie family, which never entered production, it also took improved suspension and new fuel tanks. It reached 80 km/h.
In May 2010 a special KrAZ-6322 Soldier version with right-hand drive was developed and built in a small batch. In 2014 the design of the KrAZ-63221 was changed: the Russian-built YaMZ-238 engine was replaced by engines from other makers, and from 1 September 2015 the plant built the 63221 with a Ford-Ecotorq 9.0 litre engine of 360 PS. YaMZ-238 engines were still offered from stocks delivered up to 1 November 2014 if the customer asked for one.
The truck has been widely exported and adopted. Ukraine accepted it as a military truck in 2006 and received the first 15 in February 2008; Iraq ordered 2,150 between June 2004 and June 2007, Thailand took delivery from October 2013, Estonia bought four with TMM-3M bridges in 2015, and Egypt, Georgia, Indonesia, Syria, Nigeria, Angola, Laos, Iran and Turkmenistan also operate the type.
