The KamAZ-6560 is a heavy off-road chassis rather than a lorry in the ordinary sense. It was shown in 2005, developed as the carrier for the Pantsir-S1 air-defence system, and is now produced in two forms: a chassis for special bodies and a flatbed truck.

History of the KamAZ-6560

The 6560 was presented in the summer of 2005 at the ninth international motor show in Moscow and then at the IDEX 2005 arms exhibition in Abu Dhabi. It was developed as a chassis for the 96K6 Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft gun and missile system, which explains its shape: a very heavy off-road base designed to carry a large and heavy superstructure rather than a load of cargo.

The machine is now produced by the plant in the 6560-43 modification in two versions, a chassis for special superstructures (6560-3198-43) and a flatbed lorry (6560-6610-43). Loaded to its full weight it has axle loads of more than ten tonnes, so its use on public roads is restricted, and it is designed to be kept outside rather than in a garage. The service life set by the plant is 180,000 to 300,000 km depending on how hard the conditions are, the towed trailer may weigh 12,000 kg and the train weight reaches 50,000 kg.

The chassis has also proved useful to industry. The Galich crane plant builds 50-tonne self-propelled cranes on it: the KS-65713 with a 34.1 m boom and a maximum load moment of 160 tonne-metres, and the KS-65715 with a 40 m boom and 170 tonne-metres. In those machines the military base becomes a civilian tool for construction and for the oil and gas industry, where a 50-tonne crane that can leave the tarmac is worth a great deal.

Design and features

  • Military origin: developed as the chassis of the Pantsir-S1 air-defence system.
  • Two production forms: the 6560-3198-43 chassis and the 6560-6610-43 flatbed.
  • Heavy axle loads: more than ten tonnes per axle at full weight, so road use is restricted.
  • Long service life: 180,000 to 300,000 km, with outdoor storage provided for.
  • Crane base: carries the 50-tonne KS-65713 and KS-65715 cranes.

KamAZ-6560 versions

  • KamAZ-6560-3198-43: the chassis for special superstructures.
  • KamAZ-6560-6610-43: the flatbed lorry version.
  • KS-65713: a 50-tonne crane with a 34.1 m boom and a 160 tonne-metre load moment.
  • KS-65715: a 50-tonne crane with a 40 m boom and a 170 tonne-metre load moment.

The KamAZ-6350 is the lighter military off-road base of the Mustang family, and the heavy KamAZ-65224 is the all-wheel-drive truck chassis of the same period. More trucks are in the KamAZ collection.
