History of the Iveco Europolis

The Europolis was born in 1996 on an idea of Cacciamali, which proposed it in two versions of 9 and 10 metres called TCN105 and TCM920, based on the TCM890, itself derived from the Portesi Civibus. In 1999 Iveco bought the design and left construction to its bus division Irisbus, while Cacciamali went on supplying the bodywork.

In the first years of production, between 1996 and 2001, the bus used the Fiat 8060.45 engine, replaced by the Iveco Tector four or six when the Euro III rules came into force. The engine was always paired with a ZF 4 HP 500 automatic gearbox. Diesel was the basic fuel, and an electric version developed with ALTRA and a compressed natural gas version were also sold.

The range came in three lengths, 7.8, 9.2 and 10 metres, later 10.5 metres under the Irisbus name, with two or three inward-rotating doors and urban, suburban or interurban layouts. The bus spread mainly through Italy, where the largest fleets were bought by ATAC in Rome, ACTT and then MOM in Treviso, AMTS in Catania, AST in Sicily, CTM in Cagliari, ANM in Naples, ACFT and then TPER in Ferrara, AMT and then ATV in Verona, CSTP in Salerno and Conerobus in Ancona, which took three CNG suburban buses. Examples also went to TCL in Lyon and to the transport companies of Pula and Thessaloniki.
